About The Founder, Bonita Grobbelaar
I understand the pressure of running a founder-led business because I have lived it.
I started my first business in 2009. Since then, I have built, operated, and scaled businesses across different stages, and I have also exited one. I have carried responsibility for revenue, delivery, systems, people, and decision making, often all at once. That experience has given me a full lifecycle view of what it actually takes to build and sustain a business, not just advise one.
For many years, everything ran through me. Sales. Delivery. Systems. Marketing. People. Decisions. If I did not push things forward, they stalled. From the outside, the business looked successful. On the inside, it relied on me for almost everything.
Like many founders, I believed growth meant doing more. Longer hours. More responsibility. More plates spinning. Over time, that approach stopped being sustainable, and burnout forced me to pause and reassess how the business was really operating.
What changed everything was realising that growth does not come from more effort. It comes from structure. From building systems that actually work, hiring into clarity instead of chaos, and intentionally removing the founder as the bottleneck holding the business together.
In 2022, I founded Scale to Impact to apply this approach deliberately for other founders. Since then, we have partnered with owner-led businesses facing similar pressures and helped them stabilise sales and operations, reduce dependency on the founder, and grow without adding unnecessary complexity or premature headcount.
With more than sixteen years of experience across operations, sales, systems, and team leadership, I have seen firsthand that the right foundations do more than change businesses. They change lives.
